Snacks to Keep You Energized During Long Bike Rides

These warm summer days inspire us to go on long hikes, explore hidden gems of the province and to gear up in order to have everything one might need during a sunny trek. During those rides, it is imperative to stay hydrated, but also to fuel your body. High protein snacks rich in carbohydrates and fats are ideal. Here are some of the best snacks to bring along during your next bike ride. 

-Fruits

We prefer fruits that are easy to carry and are rich in carbohydrates such as apples or bananas. Fruits are light enough to keep you energized during your bike ride. 

-Slices of bread

Another source of carbohydrates that should not be overlooked. Even better when paired with cheese to obtain a portion of proteins and lipids.

-Muffins

There’s nothing easier than making your favourite muffins more nutritious by adding protein powder. If you’re not a fan of the latter, nuts and oatmeal are a good alternative in making your snack high in protein. 

-Smoothie

Like muffins, protein powder helps make your high-carb smoothies more nutritious in proteins. On a hot summer day, smoothies will quench your thirst whilst giving you energy to keep on riding. 

-A bag of mixed nuts

Nuts are rich in fat and protein and provide many other nutritional benefits.

As mentioned above, hydration is key when venturing on the bike path. Dehydration affects performance and weakens your endurance.
