Marin
Marin Bikes is an American bicycle brand founded in 1986 in Marin County, California, the birthplace of mountain biking. The company was created by Bob Buckley, who discovered cycling after a water-skiing accident and, with the advice of champion rider and designer Joe Murray, decided to enter the rapidly growing mountain bike market. The brand name comes from the Marin County region, and its bike models are named after local trails.
Marin made its mark with the release of the Madrone Trail, one of the first mass-produced mountain bikes. Over the years, the company became known for innovation, introducing titanium frames, pioneering hybrid bikes, developing full-suspension designs, and later expanding into carbon frames and advanced suspension systems like MultiTrac. Despite periods of decline, Marin has remained a respected name in the cycling industry, staying true to its “Made for Fun” philosophy rooted in California’s mountain biking heritage.
